Over the years or our existence, TIGI has been involved in a few projects in communities in Guyana and also centrally. This page provides overviews of the projects and links to relevant documents and publications related to the projects.
Transparency, Accountability and Anti-Corruption in Local Government in Guyana
The Transparency, Accountability and Anti-Corruption (TAC) in Local Government was executed in regions 3, 4, 6, and 10 in the period January 2017 to August 2017 with funding from the British High Commission. The project was led by Troy Thomas, Ph.D. guided by a steering committee which in addition to Dr. Thomas, included Alfred Bhulai, Vanda Radzik, Compton Meerabux, Sarah Bharrat and Frederick Collins.
In June of 2019 civil society groups: Policy Forum Guyana, Transparency International Guyana Inc (TIGI) and the Guyana Human Rights Association (GHRA) hosted a platform for discussions on the topic: “Fathoming the future: What to do about Oil and Gas.” The aim was to get from this process and similar processes in the future a consensus from Guyanese on what type of future we would like to have as we move into this new era,” as Executive Member of the GHRA Kerry Anne Kansinally put it.
This open space activity, as it was styled, was an outreach to ascertain as far as possible the concerns of the citizenry, as the country was preparing for a petroleum future whether it was ready or not, with commencement of production set at that time for early 2020.

CITIZENS were able to express their concerns and share suggestions for the developing oil and gas sector as local civil society groups joined hands to foster an open space for discussions and collaborative thinking.
Current Major Project
Out of the Open Space interaction came the expressed desire of the participants to monitor the income from the petroleum industry and its utilization from the standpoint of equity.
That project is underway.
The Guyana Integrity Monitor
The Guyana Integrity Monitor is a project expected to be launched soon. This is intended to be an at least half-yearly review of integrity matters from the standpoint of commitments made by successive Governments over time.
Open Government
This is a call on the citizens of Guyana to demand open government. Open government is the antithesis of the culture in Guyana – a culture of secrecy. This website will host several messages which we intend to publish as part of our education programme.
