Director: Compton Meerabux

Compton Meerabux
  • Graduated from 6th form of Saint Stanislaus College with Latin Pure Maths and English at ‘A’ level in August 1954. 
  • Joined the society of Jesus in England Sept 1954, after graduating in Aug 1954.
  • Earned a bachelors in Philosophy and a Bachelor’s in Theology from Heythrop College, Oxon-London University
  • Has a Master’s Degree from Oxford
  • Did Sabbatical studies in spirituality at the Vatican and pastoral studies in Canada (Marynoll Institute, New York).
  • As editor of the Catholic Standard was close to Rickey Singh and Hubert Williams during the 1980’s during which he witnessed the excesses of government.
  • Was a member of the Guyana Council of Churches during those times.
  • Studies included folklore of Guyana with University doctorate papers on the baccoo and Kanaima, i.e. supra-normal phenomena. Keeps in touch with the UG on the subject.
  • Visited all the jails in Guyana. Was in charge of Essequibo area as a priest. Always organized ecumenical visits to the Mazaruni prison and encouraged the heads of the prisons to have courses for the prisoners in agriculture in order to earn money and be able to have a certificate to show that they are rehabilitated.
  • Is a founder director of the Guyana Karate College Liliendaal. In 2018 he was elected president of the Guyana College at Liliendaal.
  • Has a pastime as a linguist which includes English creolese, fluent in French, Spanish, with written works in French and Spanish, reads and understands Portuguese.
  • Knows Hindi at nursery school level. Never forgot it.  Started out at Hindi pre-school. Was the famous school run by Pandit Ramsaroop of the Dharmsala school.
